In her pre-Christian years, Mara did what so many people do: Whatever seemed right at the time. That road often brings regret and baggage. Many of us know it well. On that path, Mara experienced disappointments and trauma. That road led her to the point of being alone and pregnant. She didn’t know what to do. She went to Planned Parenthood, where she was given no counseling but instead told, “We can take care of your problem.” She felt no other option - so she had an abortion. 

Fast forward into the next chapter, she is married with one long awaited child, Zach. Mara wanted the storybook life, but something inside kept tearing at her heart and would not set her free. Shame was crushing her. The pain would soon spill into her marriage, which eventually ended in divorce. Overwhelmed by the sorrow - Mara encountered Jesus in a powerful way. 

He invited her to “come home” - to return to her first love: 

God. Mara opened her Bible for the first time in a long time. 

She returned to church and her love for Christ grew strong. 

God won over and healed her heart. 

She found herself restored - gifted with a new chapter. She met Mark and it became clear - God was giving her a fresh start. Mark and Mara have been married for over six years with a union built on God’s grace. She shares her story of restoration at her church - where she has found a vibrant group of believers. Mara’s takes the message everywhere:
God is able to save and heal to the uttermost - even into the darkest, crushed corners of our soul. (Heb 7:25)
